Virtual Driver Interactive (VDI) announced the release of One Simple Decision 2.0 along with new customers that have signed on for OSD, the only simulation program that forces participants to live through the consequences of driving distracted or impaired.
OSD is designed to modify a participant’s driving behavior by illustrating the consequences of choices made behind the wheel. Through a combination of driving simulation, intense interactions and first-person consequence videos, students are immersed in an intense, 20-minute experience that forces them to “live through” the results of the decisions they made while behind the wheel. New features of OSD 2.0 include:
- Improved graphics and lighting
- More complex traffic patterns
- More complex and natural pedestrian flow
- Improved interaction between driver’s vehicle and other cars
- Updated phone and texting interface
- Wider field of view allowing driver to see left and right side mirrors simultaneously
- More natural and varying reaction time delays for impaired driving
The Pasadena Police Department
...is dedicated in educating the public regarding safe driving habits and has conducted numerous programs relating to impaired and distracted driving. Our programs have targeted all age groups, but our main focus has been teen drivers. We searched for a driving simulator that was portable, interactive and one that associated with both impaired and distracted driving. Our answer was VDI’s, VT Touch Simulator with One Simple Decision (OSD). It is a system that we could set up in our mobile education trailer for large scale events or take to a classroom for small presentations. The OSD software is very engaging which helps keep the attention of young users. It goes beyond just driving aimlessly like other simulators and communicates, through first-person video, the consequences of bad choices made behind the wheel. This simulator is a great tool and we have received nothing but positive response from all we have presented it to. We have been so impressed, we were compelled to buy a second VT Touch.
AAA safety advocates across The Auto Club Group’s eleven-state area and beyond are utilizing VDI’s OSD in an effort to address the issue of distracted and impaired driving by reaching out to teens in various communities and teaming up with traffic safety ambassadors in law enforcement and high schools.
Recognizing the effectiveness of OSD, multiple police departments across North America including Pasadena, Los Angeles and Toronto, have also implemented OSD into community safety outreach programs and events.
OSD addresses distraction driving including texting, cell phone use, peer distractions and other electronics. OSD also provides information and experiences that deal with impairments including alcohol, legal/illegal drugs and fatigue. The experiences were developed with the Sacramento County Court, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, UC Davis Health Systems, Calstar Shock Trauma Air Rescue, the Sacramento Bee and Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
