The Department of Homeland Security has announced the adoption of standards for the Voluntary Private Sector Preparedness Accreditation and Certification Program (PS-Prep), which seeks to improve private sector preparedness for disasters and emergencies. To help facilities achieve this goal, Emergency Film Group has produced "Facility Emergency Management," a DVD-based training program that will help small and medium-sized organizations develop and implement an emergency plan for use at incidents of all sizes.

Combining realistic training exercises at small businesses and schools with footage of actual incidents, “Facility Emergency Management” describes procedures the Emergency Manager can take to protect workers, customers, visitors and the nearby community from the effects of an incident, whether it begins inside or outside the facility. Included in the package are a 28-minute DVD and a Resource CD-Rom with a PowerPoint that focuses on the new PS-Prep Program. The CD-Rom also includes a quiz and other materials that an instructor can use or modify for a training seminar.

The program examines the Emergency Operations Center as well as the five levels of incidents and the appropriate response of the facility for each level. It explores mitigation and prevention; preparedness; response; and recovery. The Incident Command System is also described so that the organization can integrate with emergency response personnel.

Technical advisors for “Facility Emergency Management” include Frank Borelli, a former police officer and currently the Editor-in-Chief of Officer.com, a website dedicated to supporting police officers; Phillip Currance, a member of the US Public Health Service who serves as the Deputy Commander of the Central US National Medical Response Team for WMD; Rick Hetzel, Special Agent in Charge and the Team Commander with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Special Response Team; Mike Hildebrand, Senior Partner and operations security consultant with Hildebrand & Noll Associates; Chris Mailliard, a Tactical Medic with over 15 years in emergency response; August Vernon of the Forsyth County (NC) Office of Emergency Management; and Trent Walker, Critical Incident Planning Officer for the Greensboro Police Department (NC).
