There is a principle of camouflage called boundary disruption, which is used by animals, by soldiers (both modern and not-so-modern), and by designers of discreet-carry firearms bags. Boundary disruption involves masking the boundaries of the person, animal, or item you are trying to conceal or, if seen, make them unrecognizable. The common gray squirrel uses this principle with his white underside and gray top side: the sharp contrast in color breaks up his shape. The boonie hat that soldiers wear disrupts the boundary (actually changes) the shape of his head, and the macro-pattern in his camouflage uniform (assuming he is wearing recent generation digital camo) breaks up his body's form. If you want to carry a handgun in a location and with a type of bag that's become known over the years as a gun bag, using strategically-placed pockets, seams, zippers, and different materials in the bag can break up the outline of the gun bag and visually disguise the fact that it contains your gat.

It contains so many distracting elements in the form of pockets, flaps, materials, and so on that you have to have some imagination to think of it as a gun pack. Furthermore, all of those pockets, pouches, and compartments serve two other very practical purposes.

1. They are actually useful for carrying stuff. Consider that gun-capable waist packs are most useful in hot weather when you aren't wearing clothing that allows concealment in a more traditional location. That same light clothing will likely have very few pockets in which to carry your wallet, pen, cell phone, glasses, knife, and so on. Think shorts and a t-shirt.
2. If you are carrying your gun in a waist pack and someone is watching you, and you draw your other gear - wallet and so on, from their normal locations in your pockets, the person watching you is going to wonder what the waist pack is for and he/she won't have to have a very active imagination to figure it out.

The Discreet Gun Carry Bag has two half-width pockets that face front. The one to an observer's right has a mesh pocket on the outside of it in which you can carry normal or innocent items. The actual right-side pocket unzips to open; the pocket lined with hook-and-loop loop material, and three elastic hook-backed sleeves are included. You select the sleeve that is best suited to the gear you want to carry there. The front-facing pocket that is to the left of an observer (to the right of the wearer) has a zippered flap - the zippered compartment can hold flat items like credit cards. But wait, there's more! There's an entire set of pockets and pouches on the rear of the bag. There's a two-compartment, full-width zippered pocket for holding valuables on the rear-most surface of the bag, and a set of three elastic pouches in an open pocket in front of it. The elastic pouches are sized to hold pistol magazines, but mags carried there would be partially exposed to view. Better to carry ordinary gear there like lights, cell phones, etc.

The rear pockets are contained on a rear flap that is sewn on the top to the front part of the bag, and hook-and-loop attached to the front on the bottom. Also, the waist strap attaches by hook-and-loop to the bag between the front and rear sections. This allows the waist strap to be reversed, placing its quick-release buckle on the right or left according to user preference. Also, the strap can be removed altogether and the bag can be worn by threading a regular pants belt through the front and rear sections of the bag, or the strapless bag can simply be carried in hand. There are also three webbing loops on either side of the bag, so that you can clip things like a light or carabineer to them, or use them to hang the bag (think of a men's room stall).
