Hunter vs. Prey

As is so common in my household, my youngest son saw something on television that inspired him to ask me a question that made me have to think. In this case the question was about how NOT to be prey - or how to escape the hunter. After further conversation and some philosophical thinking we came to the conclusion that the only way to cease being prey was to become a hunter; even if that means turning the tables on the hunter to make him the prey. In fact, that’s the ONLY way to stop being prey.

Think about it…

Whether you’re a police officer, a soldier or a regular everyday citizen, if you are being hunted then you are prey. No matter how long you run, hide, dodge or duck, you are still being hunted. You are still prey. Even if you escape the hunter indefinitely, you never stopped being prey; you just left an unsuccessful hunter somewhere behind.

To stop being the prey anywhere along the line - whether it’s immediately after the hunt has begun or simply when you get tired of being hunted - you have to turn the tables on the hunter and make him (or her) the prey; to do that, you have to become the hunter in your mind, in your heart and in your actions.

Not everyone is capable of doing that. However, every person who wears a law enforcement or military uniform had better be!

What do you think?

No matter how many times it is said or in how many different ways this is a message that never grows old. Thanks for saying it again.

I could not agree with you more, Frank. Too many police officers today lack the mentality of which you speak which is necessary to win confrontations. They look at being a police officer as “just a job” not requiring any special thought processes. It is the truth that we have to think of ourselves as the “hunter” in every situation while always being mindful that the “prey” could fight back at any time.

A well written article that every person that has a permit to carry should read. Keep up the good work.

  4. I agree. Wish I didn’t have to agree, but still agree. I think we’ve become so “civilized” and “pc” we don’t think much in terms of hunter and hunted anymore. That’s why in our culture today when a person is selected by a predator, they’re at a terrible disadvantage — even if they know they’re being hunted. In our society, in a situation like that, it’s just so hard to get our mind set into the necessity of becoming the hunter. Ask any tribal or primitive person. They’d instinctively know what they had to do. I think it’s been that way since the dawn of time. A small veneer of culture hasn’t changed that, whether we want to face that or not.

to live in this world with some peace you have one choice that is a mind set which say if someone ucks with you u are willing to kill or be killed. Its a lot better than groveling to the grave, cop or non cop. Be a man, Be a woman but don’t grovel.
